Cycle Two: Activate! Day 16 - The Gift

HI everybody!

Thanks for supporting The Feed Bags.

Irene and I had two nice days together as Natasha spent some time with us before she travelled on to her next destination. It has been four years since we last saw Natasha and I find it sad that I have to say so long to my friend of the past 18 years.

The three of us enjoyed coffee and more fresh juice today over healthy conversation and debating. We shared a lot of laughs and a few tears said our good byes and parted company. I was unable to eat anything

Cycle Two: Activate! Day 15 - Conversion!

Success.

We all love to hear good news, and I have some.

My friend Natasha came to town from Vancouver yesterday and I invited her over for supper. I picked her up from where she was staying and brought her back to the house to have supper with Lane, Noriko, Irene and me. I made a stewed chicken with tonnes of veggies, sautéed green beans with mushrooms and an Asian style slaw. For an appetizer, Noriko made a simple Miso soup and a tofu dish that was served with Wasabi and kelp! It was all sooo delicious!

We had such a good time reminiscing and talking after supper that Natasha accepted our invitation to spend the night and decided to go back to her host family's house to pick up a few overnight things to stay with us. Before we left, she stopped me in the kitchen and said, "You think that we could stop by McDonald's so I can pick up a sundae? I feel like something sweet."
Tofu with Wasabi, Kelp and Lite Soy Sauce
"Well, I don't know what you have in mind" I replied, "but if you want a delicious treat, why don't you try some mixed berries with fat free yogurt and Stevia extract?" I then proceeded to tell Natasha how good these little bits and bites are. She thought for about a second and then we took off down the road. 20 minutes later on our way back, we were passing the turn off to McDonald's and she pointed for me to turn. I did. The drive-thru was open.

Natasha asked, "Will you share a McFlurry with me?"
"Nope."
"Will you have some bites out of a sundae?"
"Nope."
"REALLY?"
"Yup."
"So how do you do that berry thing?"
"Well you can eat the berries frozen or warm them up. I stir them into plain yogurt that I sweeten with Stevia."
"Ok. Let's do that. Thank you for talking me out of eating junk."
"REALLY? You are very welcome!"

I helped a person make a wholesome, nutritious and healthy choice. All it took was honesty. I believe that what I eat is delicious and I believe in the truth. Don't sugar coat it, really. Don't.

Here is a photo of Natasha enjoying her yogie and berries! Ps, She doesn't know I took a picture of her.

Natasha is enjoying a healthy dessert!

P: "Hey ducky!!! :) Just letting you know that your presence is REALLY missed!!! :( See you soon. Luv, Pumpkin"
M: "Hey! Good to hear from you. I appreciate the sentiments! Things are ok. I've lost 23lbs so far. I hear you are taking off somewhere!"
P: "Awee wow...that's awesome!!! :) keep it up!! And share your secrets with me!

Cycle Two: Activate! Day 13 - Catharsis of My Soul

Hi all!

So what is up with this wind here? It's totally mental and really unseasonal. In all the years I have lived in Westbank, I have never seen this consistently bad. Maybe since I have been in Alberta for the past 11 winters, being subjected to fierce Chinook Winds, I just forgot about what the weather is like "back home".

I have a stomach ache today. A bad one. I didn't have my usual morning constitutional, even with a little coaxing from some strong coffee. This has completely thrown my system off,

Cycle Two: Activate! Day 12 - Losses and Gains

Good evening fellow dieter's!

I am not opposed to using the word like many are. I hear that "diet" is a four letter word, diet is "DIE" with a "T", I hear a lot of negative connotations attached to the word. None of it affects me. Really. I am dieting and proud to use nutritional therapy to change my life for the better and hopefully, help and encourage others in the process!

I had like zero sleep last night because I was up late writing and in between blogs, I was talking to a friend in Egypt. Things are pretty hairy there and they want to flee to Canada. People are being bombed, starving and I am concerned over a minor diet? Heck no! I think not!

So the neighbours kids were up early and began to stomp, scream, run, roll, cry, tumble and do lord knows what next door and I could feel my head vibrating on the pillow,

Cycle Two: Activate! Day's 9 - 11.

So the weekend is gone, along with most of the major holiday's.

Hi Everybody! Thanks for reading.

I am combining three days because I only cooked once on Friday, and we have been eating the leftover's of batch number three of my Super Soup! I did this because I was asked to be a designated driver on Saturday night and was not sure of when or where I would be coming or going. So I thought to cook ahead and eat when it is most convenient. No preparations or meal menu's for this weekend.

No matter.

Saturday was a blur as I felt the affects again of the terrible wind that blew in the day before. I have never had headaches here at home before this visit. Migraines and this location never existed. However, I must say that

Cycle Two: Activate! Day 8 - Stuff It!

Howdy!

New recipe today.

I thought that I would try a hand at my culinary creativity today. I succeeded.
All the ingredients in this recipe are in Cycles 1 & 2 of The 17 day Diet. Messa's Peppy's turned out beautiful! We ate them with left over squash and revelled every bite!

So who wants my recipe's???

Cycle Two: Activate! Day 7 - Correlation of Cinnamon and Blood Sugar

Oh Boy!
An apple a day does not necessarily keep the doctor away, especially if it's covered in cinnamon and you are predisposed to diabetes!  WHAT??
The Poisonous Apple

I think we may have had a slight scare tonight. The two of us had our regular standing arrangements to go out tonight but the weather was affecting me in a peculiar way and then we had a blip on our radar.

Around 3pm, Irene turned white and said how she felt weak and light headed. "Messa? Look up cinnamon and see what adverse affects there are from eating too much." I naturally asked her how much was too much and she courageously revealed to me that she had put about two table spoons in her yogurt and fruit.

Cycle Two: Activate! Day 6 - Spaghetti for Four

Hi all.
REAL FOOD FOR REAL PEOPLE.
Spaghetti Squash and Meat Sauce - 100% Diet food!

Today's entry is not about how great our food was. Today's entry is about a challenge, a clash of emotions and of discouragement because food came first instead of moral obligation to one's self.

Today, Irene and I had a plan of action.
Walk along the lake, bank and shop for groceries - in that order.

We started off with juicing a breakfast. She insists that it staves off her hunger. I find it delicious but juicing doesn't affect me the same way.

Cycle Two: Activate! Day 5 - Helping Hands

Hi All or none!

Today Irene and I were up early and shared a little time having coffee before we headed into town to help Millie with her house cleaning. We had been planning to do this last Saturday but the funeral came up, so we postponed it until today.

Irene and I planned ahead as usual, and packed a lunch to take with us to Millie's. We had salad greens with fresh grape tomatoes, green onion, spinach and red pepper. We also packed our left over chicken kabob's and veggie skewers. In addition to the food, I made sure to include

Messa's Sensational Berry Custard Crumble

I used my imagination tonight to make something that is not in Dr. Moreno's book: The 17 Day Diet. However, everything that I used in this recipe is individually mentioned in Cycles 1 & 2.

Prior to dieting some people have two eyes bigger than their stomach. Then the stomach grows larger than anything else on your body, dwarfing the eyes and everything else in it's shadow.

Cycle Two: Activate! Day 3 - Funeral's are not fun

I listen to music while I write. You may not believe this, but the very second I began this entry, the theme song from my favourite T.V. show of all time began playing."Suicide Is Painless", more famously known as the M*A*S*H theme, is beyond appropriate for today's experience.

The funeral we attended today was for a long time family friend who committed suicide. So, today was a sad day. How does the loss of a friend and the grief and pain that is clearly expressed by their family members and friends affect us?

Cycle Two: Activate! Day 2 - Road Trip

Today Irene, Noriko, Annie the puppy and I went on a road trip to Vernon!
Watch puppy singing in Japanese

We had been planning this little shopping excursion for quite some time, and now it has come and gone so quickly. We left early enough to grab a Starbuck's coffee for the road, but late enough to arrive around lunch time and have a little bite before we continued on with our day.

Hi everyone!
LOT'S OF GOOD NEWS TO REPORT.

Firstly, since Irene asks me every day about my weight, I am happy to tell you that I have officially lost 18 lbs so far. That is an average of just over 1 pound for every day that I have been on this diet. Today is day 18. For any who might be confused about the timing of Dr. Moreno's program, it involves four, 17 day cycles.

Cycle One: Day 17 - Official Numbers

Howdy y'all!

The numbers are in! I have officially lost 15 pounds. I have gone from a weight of 281 lbs to 266 lbs in just 17 days. Tomorrow I will be recording my measurements as a reference point for Cycle Two, Days 1 - 17.

As far as Irene goes, she is less than enthusiastic about weighing herself and taking measurements. I am trying hard to encourage her to focus more on how far she has come, rather on the daunting task of the next 57 lbs she has to lose. Yes, I know that it is important to have your goals close at hand, but losing weight is a tough task, a battle not easily won. To not become down in heart, I am trying to keep Irene up on how much weight she has lost in order for her to maintain perspective and be balanced about the whole new lifestyle change. WOW! IRENE... you have lost 128 lbs - ummm... yeah, like WOW is right!

Thanks for tuning in every one, no one, whomever or not.

Lots o' love!

Cycle One: Accelerate! Day 13 - 17 Messa's Motivation

Hi everyone,

As I write every day I am constantly refining my thoughts about what to write in order to be more appealing and encouraging for my readers. I know that realistically I have no readers at the moment, and that the only reason the counter is going up on this blog is because I visit every day to write and edit.

I know that what I write may be boring and ordinary. In case life has escaped the attention of some, realistically every day activity becomes routine and mundane. Life does not have to be boring! Life and it's simple satisfactions are founded on structure and routine. I know that I for one have never in my life, ever said "I am bored".

Cycle One: Accelerate! Day 12 - New Additions

Hi Hi!

Last night we had a new addition to our family. I am so happy that I am here WITH my family and able to share the joy of the new addition. Lane and Noriko are the proud parents of an 8 week old Border Collie puppy who chose her own name, Annie.

She is the smallest, cutest 4-legged furball that I have seen - ever. This was taken 14 hours after she got home.

Today was a good day and Irene and I have finally swung into our own little dietary routines. Even though we

Hi,

It's Messa again. I just thought that I would share what most people want to know. since I have been asked for before photos, weight and size, I will post my measurements here.

Irene is opting out from this part for reasons unknown to me.

Cycle One: Accelerate! Day 11 - DIET is not a bad word!

To my fellow readers, bloggers, vloggers, dieters, whomever you are out there...

Today was a super bad day, not diet wise, but health wise. I suffered from an incredible migraine, one so bad that it even made me sick to my stomach. I am not sure why exactly my head was aching. I tried to think about dietary changes and there weren't any. I thought about the barometric pressure, that too was not bad, so I can't say for sure why I had such a bad pain in my head.

I stayed in bed until 4 pm and then wandered out and made coffee. Irene was gone for the majority of the day and while she was out she told me she went out for lunch with her girl friends. She had a Caesar salad with the regular restaurant dressing. She did not elaborate on anything so I did not ask her about salad additions like seafood or chicken.

I was not well enough to eat until about 7 pm and then I had

Oh yes, the juice has a wonderful colour and I am sure it's nutritional properties are fit for a queen.

My kingdom is my body and I am the lone ruler of this domain. I know that this is a healthy way of thinking and that I have been waiting to succeed on the throne for many years. I was not ready to inherit the position until my mind and body said enough is enough. Time to govern over the entire state of Messa.

Today, both Irene and I ate leftovers. On purpose. The soup that I made the night before was

Cycle One: Accelerate! Day 8 - Monday Madness

Hi everyone!

I got up late this morning, booo. It's my sixth day of watching the sun come up.

Have no fear because I was accompanied during the night by my favourite male You Tuber of the "Cosmetic/Make Up" genre, Wayne Goss. His videos are extremely concise when it comes to cosmetics because he get's to the meat of the problem/product instead of dancing around unnecessary information. Chalk that up to being a guy. More technical facts, less emotional filler. For those of you who appreciate the bitter truth, love a good laugh and have a penchant for cosmetics, Wayne Goss is THE go to guy to watch! Not to mention that I get a kick our of his vernacular and command of the English language.. SENSATIONAL! For more on Wayne Goss, please follow his blog here: Goss Makeup Artist or if you feel daring, subscribe to his channel on You Tube here: Goss Makeup Artist on You Tube. I am always daring, darlings...

Sunday's Seven

Hi everybody! Or nobody.

So far I think I am the only one who is jacking up the page views on this site from all my posting, photos and editing. But that's OKAY. Even if I'm only encouraging myself, I am still going through with this.

Today I think that I was being hit up by the critical healing phase of my diet. My symptoms included some minor stomach irritation that began last night.

I have to be clear about mentioning that in the 17 Day Diet, Dr. Moreno made no references to

Cycle One: Accelerate! Day 6 - Gobble Gobble Gobble

Hi everyone, if there is anyone out there.
Carrot, cabbage, celery and ginger juice! Yummers!

Sleep is so important. Not just for the purpose of resting but also for restoring our bodies while we sleep. Our livers for instance, go through a very healthful phase and peak their rejuvenation, somewhere between the hours of 11 pm and 2 am. If we are not sleeping or at least resting, our bodies don't recover from the elements that we expose them to.

Both Irene and I were late in getting to sleep, in fact it wasn't until 2:45 am that Irene toddled off to bed and I watched the sunrise for the third day in a row. I know. But

Cycle One: Accelerate! Day 5 - A 10 lb loss

Greetings health fans!

I'm here to say that Irene and I spent the day apart today. I was awake until almost 8 am when I heard her get up and begin juicing her breakfast. It was about 9:30 when she walked by my room and I turned to speak to her through the door that I had left open the night before.

She went on with her plans for the day and left for town and I went back to bed to try and sleep. I had a mother of a headache and could barely move my head. This was the fourth time in nearly two weeks that I have had a headache, today being the worst.

Not so great morning, Thursday...
Doing the Hawaiian Hula In Walmart with tinsel as my Lei & Skirt!

6:07 am
I was still awake from the previous day and felt hungry and tired. Bad combo. I ate my leftover caramel yogurt and Granny Smith apple for breakfast and literally crashed out.

10:10 am
Starbucks with Noriko. I had my usual venti, bold pick with skim milk and decided to add one Splenda to the mix. It was hot and comforting, something I especially needed after going a night with minimal sleep. The two of us laughed and had a nice conversation. I am glad that there is no problem with a language barrier between us.

DEATH on the West Bank

Wednesday...
Hi everybody!

I am taking the liberty of writing something a little bit different than the original format that I have been using since we began this blog.

Irene and I had an exceptionally good day. We shared beautiful beet juice and laughs, as I weighed myself after two days on the 17 Day Diet and had a drop in 7 pounds. WOW. Irene also weighed in at 197 pounds, down 3! YAY.

Today we had a small telephone reunion with friends two provinces away in Saskatchewan and company that came over later for tea with toast and jam. A lovely treat of which neither Irene and I partook of.

Irene and I have a standing scheduled appointment every Wednesday night and her nerves were a bit bad, so I decided to go out by myself. When I left the house I noticed that our neighbours across the street were paying more than the usual attention to my movements. Also, there were vehicles parked everywhere; cars in their driveway, on the street in front of their house, our house, next door... really, everywhere. I joked to myself that they were starting their seasonal party waaay ahead of schedule this year, and drove off.
